v 6–7 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed. By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.

God’s fecundity is not of necessity for him, but by his will, and in keeping with his Name. By the same power that God Created the world, he cleansed it from sin by the destruction of the flood in which it was deluged and destroyed. By the same power that God provided freedom and life in the flesh, he sent his Son to atone for the sins of the world, worked throughout history by the flesh using the freedom given by God to exalt and worship itself, and in his blood purchase reconciliation by faith in him. By the same word which was fulfilled in Jesus Christ that those who believe would have fellowship with God, the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, prepared to be judged and destroyed such that only that life which is now hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3.3) will endure.

That which God created is not being worked out to its own rectification of the rebellion of flesh against God. Scripture’s prophecy is that only by God’s miracle will God’s promises of eternal life be delivered: not by man, nor creation, regardless the duration of history endured patiently. God’s word is that the current creation is being kept for the day of judgment, not for its own redemption, but that those who are chosen by God might be redeemed from it, spared destruction of the ungodly.

This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God
